Developments – 8/24/09

To begin with, I’ll say that the reason for my absence is no loss of motivation or inspiration, but rather a lack of opportunity for concentration. I’ve recently got back into school (my career NOT being retired military like some of you thought) which has taken away a considerable portion of my time. Fear not, however, as I’ll still be publishing blog posts (albeit not as often as the foregoing ones).

Now for the good stuff. For those of you that are unaware, the Team Fortess 2 server is once again in full, functioning condition. The fast respawn times are working once again along with the rest of Source Mod. And yes, the lag issues are fixed and over with.

If you’re completely ignorant of the forums for whatever reason, you won’t have heard of the ultimate, Sandwich Contest currently under way. The competition seems to be heating up with each entry (literally!) and the deadline is about two weeks away. If you haven’t already started, get your ass to the grocery store and get cooking! I mean, I would for $25 worth of Steam Games and other stuff.

And finally, some might have noticed the new forum section, “How to:”. This section is for guides, tutorials and other instructional mediums. Along with this, I’m making an offer. I’m planning on creating a tutorial in accords with the opening of this new forum section, though I’m (surprisingly) unsure of what to detail in the tutorial. As such, I’m willing to take suggestions from the comments section down below so try giving me something reasonable to do.

Classless or Clueless?

As most of you already know, Valve recently released the Team Fortress 2 “Classless Update”.  Some players are heralding it as a wondrous gift given to them by the Valve Gods, others are making snide remarks about it and it’s supposed lackluster qualities.

Well I have a statement to make: the update DOES suck. But not for the reasons anyone’s talking about. There are some pretty crappy features like the update on Engineers’ teleporters and spies sapping them and the increased advantage for the winning team on plr_pipeline (as if the team stacking on this map wasn’t bad enough), but the worst feature, by far, is the new King of the Hill gamemode.

Valve introduced this KOTH gamemode with the assumption that the TF2 Community would understand it and people would work as a team to capture the hill and protect it and a whole bunch of other common sense crap. But why? The Team Fortress 2 Community can’t even comprehend the current gamemodes let alone an entirely new one. At this point I’m entirely convinced that whoever had the idea at Valve to offer this new gamemode is just as dumb as the majority of the TF2 Community for assuming that a playerbase that lacks so much intelligence, could comprehend so much more than they already don’t. Did you get all that? TF2 players still don’t understand how to block captures, yet Valve implements another capture-point-based gamemode. Before long they’ll have us doing algebra problems.

I also heard something about Valve claiming that the Sandman takes away 30% of the Scout’s health when it really takes away 30 health (not 30 percent). It was a while before one player with a calculator made a post pointing it out on the Steam Forums. Either Valve (Chinamen) can’t do math or they thought nobody would notice.

This update would’ve been good, it would’ve been fun if the Team Fortress 2 Community had a majority of players with a decent IQ, but it doesn’t. Valve has good programmers and good designers but they just don’t understand the playerbase. They praise this update as cost-free and “better than expensive”, but while it may not cost any money, I feel as if this update is costing me my sanity whenever I attempt to play Team Fortress 2.

Real Change

Just when you thought the profuse coverage of Michael Jackson’s death was enough to make you irate, President Barack Obama said some cops acted “stupidly”. A few days later, the cop, a black professor and Obama are having beer at the WhiteHouse together.

Does this mean Obama gives beer to stupid people?

And if so, why hasn’t she gotten one?

I’m joking, of course. But this does raise questions. If Obama’s idea of change is to improve race relations by giving beer to stupid people, who else should get beers? Post a comment below about who you think Obama should give a beer to for being stupid.

In other news, I came across this amazing comic about bacon.
