Scores Suck
Lately I’ve been in the habit of reading blogs I don’t normally read (some of the new ones in the Links section and some others that are new to me). Frankly, I’ve been reading the blogs with the intention of criticizing them. I’ve been looking for faults to exploit. My motive for such is pretty obvious, it’s my primary source of enjoyment when reading blogs. And I’m glad to respect anyone also reads with that intention. Digression aside, I’ve been able to draw one conclusion: Anyone who puts a musical score into their post or article sucks at writing.
One basis of respect I have for writers is the fact that they don’t have the advantage of a musical score, unlike movie directors. And as if blogs weren’t bad enough, people started adding music to them! All you have to do is look around at some of the neighboring blogs and the blogs that neighbor them. The worst part is, the music usually doesn’t make an ounce of sense. The worst part of it is, what I thought were the worst blogs don’t even try to use music to make their writing better. Either they know they suck or the guys using music suck even worse. Whatever the case is, stop using music as a crutch for bad writing.
Finally, I’ll leave you all with some good music. Not to be listened to while reading.
Kanye West
I’ma let you finish, but Senator Joe Wilson had one of the best speech interruptions of all time. One of the best speech interruptions of all time.
Really, Kanye west was just being a pretentious piece of filth. Joe Wilson actually had some balls to yell out during that speech. Just look at his face.
World War IV will be fought with Blogs
The one year anniversary of this blog is coming up and it’s made me do some thinking. A year ago when I was still at Simple RP, there were about 3 blogs in the Garry’s Mod community (if there were more than feel free to crucify me), they belonged to DSRP, Rick Dark and I can’t remember which one was the third one but I’ll leave the mention in there. Today, a lot more people with, I guess, opinions to express, with a lot more blogs.
Now don’t jump to conclusions, I’m not belittling the fact that blogs are popping up everywhere now, in fact I think it’s a good thing. Prior to the recent blog boom, there were only a handful of overt opinions expressed in the Garry’s Mod community – now we have all the information we can fathom regarding liked and disliked communities. Despite some blogs consisting of nothing but “funny” links and pictures, most have a decent read or two every once in a while.
But the Garry’s Mod community isn’t the only place we see more blogs popping up. The world outside hasn’t been so fortunate. Quite frankly, there’s some really really shitty blogs out there. Like the TSA’s Blog, reminding all us citizens not to bring knives or bombs onto airplanes. I’m pretty sure Howard Hughes would shit a brick if he were around to see this today.
Let’s not forget the atrocious piece of trash that is Rosie O’Donnell’s blog. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, Rosie O’Donnell made a blog. I’m not sure it even deserves to be called a blog, it just seems like a complication of bad grammar and crappy poems all thrown into a website.
Here’s the bottom line people: If your blog ever reaches some sort of precedence and gets a large amount of readers, keep it genuine. Keep writing about the things no one cares about instead of the things people just really don’t give a shit about. Express some sort of opinion with your blog, whether it be verbally destroying someone’s reputation, reviewing a movie or talking about politics. Don’t fill up your blog with crappy poetry or mainstream advice on how to travel.
P.S. I’m still laughing at Rosie O’Donnell’s poetry, I mean holy SHIT it’s terrible.
PAX 2009
As some of you know, I headed up to Seattle this weekend for PAX 2009. So, here’s the after action report.
Overall, I loved the city of Seattle. The weather was great, the people were friendly and the convention center was a great place to go to for an event like PAX.
The event was decent, I suppose. The Exhibit Hall was considerably smaller than that of Comic Con (probably about a third of the size) and the panels didn’t seem very interesting (especially the one that I went to, cough Fig cough). One of the concerts was pretty good though. And I happened to meet Jonathan Coulton on Saturday night, right out in front of the Convention Center. If I had to choose between events, I’d pick Comic Con, but if I had to choose between events and their respective cities, I’d choose PAX.
Either way, I had fun during my stay in Seattle. It was nice hanging out with some of the guys that showed up (despite the shitty dinner service we went to at the Cheesecake Factory and the bitchy employees at Sbarro). Because of these people, the most fun I had at PAX sitting at an unoccupied booth (where a guy named Dick Whitters was supposed to be signing Magic Cards) and offering autographs while pretending to be famous. The next day this guy was sitting at the booth (below). We thought he was in fact Richard Whitters but it turns out it was Mark Tedin (I think).
Maybe the reason I found the event itself to be so lackluster is because I’m not into World of Warcraft, Hello Kitty, Halo or Left 4 Dead 2, because that’s what the whole thing seemed to be centered around (save for some of the non partisan, gear-based booths like Dolby, Nvidia etc).
In the end, I had a blast in Seattle and I highly recommend attending PAX if you have friends to meet there or if you have time to tour the city during your stay. I’ve been to almost every major city on the west coast and so far I’ve liked Seattle the most. PAX was cool for a day but next time I’ll definitely spend more time looking around the city itself. Anyway, that being said, I’d like to thank everyone that I met up with at the event; I had a great time hanging out and I would’ve been bored out of my mind if I was alone.
P.S. Comic Con has way more people dressing up and cosplaying and all that. Which is not to say that I’m into that sort of thing but still, the people at PAX don’t show much spirit.
